Lake County, CA - Tasting Room

Located north of the Napa Valley, on Highway 29 near Mt. Konocti, Thorn Hill’s tasting room is a Mediterranean-inspired haven of fountains, travertine patios, stained glass windows, stone fireplaces, ponds and gardens.

Thorn Hill’s Lake County tasting room offers wine tasting daily, gourmet food and wine pairings, and wine tasting events. Guests may relax and soak up the beautiful Lake County surroundings as they enjoy tasting Thorn Hill’s world class wines which are sold in their tasting rooms by the glass, bottle or case. Thorn Hill Vineyards also supplies wine to high-end California restaurants.

Owners, John and Amy Thorn, were attracted to the Lake County because of the three key components needed to grow award winning wines: elevation, soil, and weather.

Located in the diverse micro climate of the Red Hills, Thorn Hill Vineyards covers 50 gently sloping acres within a mountainous terrain with elevations ranging from 1,400 to 3,000 feet above sea level. This unique volcanic micro-climate contributes to the favorable grape growing conditions of the region.

The Thorns chose the Red Hills Appellation because of its ideal conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes – rich, shallow volcanic soils that produce compact berries with powerful flavor. Wines produced from the local harvest tend to be big and bold, with complex fruity flavors that have a hint of wild berries, blackberries, cherries and spice. The trace minerals apparent in the volcanic soils lend earthy or flinty notes that add complexity to their wines.
